AI DECISION GUIDE

How can you assess your company’s AI readiness?

A useful AI maturity assessment examines the ability to select, fund, operate and control use cases. Counting pilots or software licences does not demonstrate that capability.

Four starting questions

  1. Strategic direction: does this use case have a business objective and an accountable sponsor?
  2. Value evidence: is there a measured baseline, a target and an owner for realization?
  3. Data and systems: is the data accessible, reliable and suitable for production integration?
  4. Governance: who approves actions, monitors outcomes and intervenes during incidents?

Answer for the use case in scope. A successful internal pilot does not establish readiness for a regulated deployment elsewhere in the business.

Interpret the score within its limits

The Navigator uses four self-reported answers on a 1–5 scale. They feed ten correlated interpretation dimensions, not ten independent measurements. The global score averages the normalized dimensions out of 100. It is a discussion signal, rather than a compliance rating or evidence of performance.

Maturity labels range from experimental to AI-ready enterprise. Focus on constraints: weak governance may block a valuable case even when the average appears acceptable.

Move from diagnosis to evidence in 90 days

In the first 30 days, select one use case, name its sponsor and establish the operational baseline. Then test captured value and controls in a bounded setting. Before expansion, have business, data, security and risk owners review the evidence.

Use the Board Kit if the mandate remains unclear. With a defined mandate, complete the Navigator’s calibration to expose value assumptions. You can also skip calibration and obtain a readiness report without a financial estimate.

FAQ

Does a high score authorize funding?

No. Funding decisions also require costs, evidence, constraints and residual-risk analysis for the use case.

Must a use case be quantified before starting?

No. Skipping calibration gives a readiness assessment without a monetary estimate or financial recommendation.
